Director’s Biography
Anahita Ghazvinizadeh is an Iranian filmmaker based in the United States. She got her BA from the Art University of Tehran, and studied at Abbas Kiarostami’s workshops. In Iran, she directed the short film When the Kid was a Kid (2011) and co- wrote the feature Mourning (2011). Anahita got her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her thesis short film Needle (2013) won the Cinéfondation first prize at Cannes Film Festival from a jury presided by Jane Campion. Anahita’s feature debut They (2017) premiered at the official selection of Cannes Film Festival. She is a professor and the head of the Screenwriting program at the University of Iowa.
